Google Analytics - Brilliant and FREE!

When using your blog or website as a marketing tool you will need to advertise the site through a variety of different methods. Some of those methods will cost you money. In an earlier blog I mentioned how useful AdMinder is in tracking your advertising, thus ensuring you only spend money on sites that generate traffic. But what does that traffic do when it enters your site? Well, to add even more power to analysing your website/blog activities you can also use Google Analytics. This totally FREE software will tell you how many visitors arrive on your site each day, which pages they look at, how long they stay on the site, plus it provides a plethora of other useful information. Google will provide the HTML code that you require, which can either be added just once to a master page, or should be attached to each individual page if your site doesn't have a master page.

The information is constantly update during the day and you can see trends appearing over whichever time periods you choose to analyse. Just think how powerful it is to understand which pages produce the best results. Equally it is important to know which pages cause your visitors to exit your site. This information can help you deal with pages that fail the 8 second test, which I covered in the previous posting.

You can add all your blogs and websites onto just one account, which makes analysis easier. You can even block information from certain sources which have a detrimental inpact up the data. For example, you won't really want Google Analytics to measure the times you visit your own site. This sort of data will pollute your results. The different options available for cutting and dicing the data with Google Analytics are endless so if you do start to use it, give yourself plently of time to get familiar with the software. Happy marketing!
